Seminar: “Women in Jewish and Christian Antiquity”. KE 20. joulukuuta 2023, Helsingin yliopisto, klo 9:30-12.

Welcome to our seminar on “Women in Jewish and Christian Antiquity” consisting of two lectures with generous time for discussion at the Faculty of Theology, University of Helsinki:

Prof. Elisa Uusimäki: “Women, Travel and Transformation in the Hebrew Bible and Beyond”

Dr. Gillian Glass: “The Mysteries Revealed to Aseneth and Enoch: Authority, Gender, and Access to Divine Knowledge”

The seminar is organized jointly by Elisa Uusimäki’s ERC project An Intersectional Analysis of Ancient Jewish Travel Narratives (ANINAN) at Aarhus University and Outi Lehtipuu’s Academy of Finland project Lived Scriptures: Ascetics, Martyrs, and Miracle-Workers. The seminar is open for all—warm welcome! We wish to encourage students in particular to join us (questions can also be asked in Finnish).

Our gathering takes place in the Faculty Room (University of Helsinki Main Building, Fabianinkatu 33, 4th floor) on Wednesday 20th of December 2023 at 9.30–11.45. We hear first a presentation of the project by Uusimäki, followed by two invited lectures by the project members (abstracts below).

You do not need to register for the event, but for catering purposes please let us know of your attendance (anna-liisa.tolonen@helsinki.fi by Friday 15th of December). In case you are not able to participate on site, you may request for a link to the zoom event.
