Are you working on archaeological, socio-historical or semantic networks in the ancient Near East? Read on, and submit your paper proposal by 01 March 2024!
We are pleased to open this call for papers to be considered for publication in an open access volume on ‘Networks in Ancient Near Eastern Studies’, edited by Ellie Bennett, Lena Tambs, and Jonathan Valk of the University of Helsinki’s Centre of Excellence in Ancient Near Eastern Empires (ANEE).
The book will assemble cutting-edge work on the application of network analysis in ancient Near Eastern studies. In addition to a general introduction and a concluding chapter tying the volume together, the work will consist of three sections devoted to (1) archaeological, (2) socio-historical, and (3) lexical networks. Each section will contain a general theoretical and methodological overview, accompanied by case studies.
With this open call, we encourage scholars working on all periods and geographical regions of the Ancient Near East—regardless of background, identity, field, and affiliation—to submit proposals for case studies illustrating the use of networks with relevant ancient Near Eastern material.
Please indicate which section is best suited to your case study and submit your preliminary title and abstract (max. 400 words) by 1 March 2024 to eleanor.bennett@helsinki.fi. Formal guidelines for submitting the manuscript will be circulated upon acceptance of the proposal.
We expect to publish the volume open access with Helsinki University Press, with a publication date in late 2025.
Questions may be directed to any of the editors at the following email addresses: eleanor.bennett@helsinki.fi, lena.tambs@helsinki.fi, and/or jonathan.valk@helsinki.fi.
